Key concepts

This page defines the terms you will meet everywhere in Nebulas. In short: in your workspace, you have assistants with different skills that query your knowledge bases.

Organization : Your company’s account in Nebulas. It owns the members, teams, billing, API keys and LLM providers. Managed in Admin.

Team : A group of members inside the organization. Assistants and knowledge bases can be declared as team resources so a whole team can use them. Only team owners and editors can do this.

A workspace is where you work. It holds a set of conversations, and the assistants, knowledge bases and data tables selected for it. It is also the access boundary: share a workspace to give other people access to what it contains.

Each user has a personal workspace. Team workspaces are shared. The workspace page shows its stats (assistants, knowledge bases, consumption), recent activity and members.

An assistant is an AI agent with a name, a description, instructions, a model, and a set of tools (knowledge search, web search, data tables, scripts, integrations, and so on). The description matters: when a workspace has several assistants, Nebulas uses it to pick which one answers.

Assistants can be created manually, built by chatting with the builder agent, or imported from another system that speaks the A2A protocol. See Create an assistant.

Developer docs and the API call an assistant an agent.

A knowledge base (or collection) is a set of documents indexed for search. Assistants with the knowledge search tool answer from it and cite the passages they used. You can upload files (PDF, Word, web pages, audio, video and more), connect a source such as SharePoint, or add content straight from a chat message.

A knowledge base also has tabs for its tables, time series, analysis, access and activity. See Knowledge bases.

A data table is structured, relational data at the workspace level: columns with types, filters and relations between tables. Unlike a knowledge base, it is not indexed for semantic search. Assistants query it in natural language and can create or update records. Time series are a related kind of table for metrics over time. See Data tables and time series.

A conversation is a 1:1 chat between you and the assistants of a workspace. A group chat is a room where several people and assistants talk in one thread. @mention someone or an assistant to bring them in.

An app (called a module in the code and the API) groups the resources you build in Studio:

Resource What it is
Script Code that runs on Nebulas. Written by the builder agent from your description, or by hand.
Report template SQL cells and charts rendered into a markdown report, saved as an artifact each time it runs.
Brand A design system (colors, fonts, assets). It can be extracted from a website. Used by the chat, widgets and image generation.
Widget A piece of UI such as a form, a card or a list. In the API it is a surface. Nebulas Kit renders widgets on your website.

Apps also have module variables shared by every script, the toolkits their scripts may call, a model, and an evaluation budget. Publishing an app creates one immutable release. See Create a custom app.

The Apps area lists Builtins (platform tools such as Calendar, Todo, Notes, News, My Files), Custom apps from your modules, and Marketplace packages.

A task runs an assistant or a script once, or on a recurring trigger (schedule, webhook or event), and delivers the result by email or in a group chat. A job chains several tasks into one sequence. The job builder plans the steps from a goal you describe and matches each one to an assistant, a script or a report.

A package is a versioned bundle of resources (assistants, knowledge, scripts and so on) that can be installed into a workspace from the Market Place. Credentials are stripped when a package is published.

A connection is an external account linked to Nebulas: Google Drive, SharePoint, Gmail, Outlook, Slack, HubSpot, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google Analytics, and custom OpenAPI or MCP servers. Connections belong to you, and apps and assistants use them on your behalf. See Connections.

An artifact is a file generated in Nebulas: a report, an image, an export. Artifacts can be opened later, shared by link, or added to a knowledge base.

Nebulas Kit is the embeddable part of Nebulas: the @gnomondigital/nebulas-kit-react and @gnomondigital/nebulas-kit-core packages that put a Nebulas assistant or widget on your own website. See How it works.
